Analyst Program

The Analyst Program is the core of Martlet Fund McGill. It’s a selective, simulation-based experience that places students into one of three real hedge fund strategy teams:

1. Long/Short Equities

2. Event-Driven

3.Arbitrage

Analysts are responsible for developing trade ideas, building simulated portfolios, presenting monthly performance, and participating in internal competitions, mirroring the workflow of real multi-manager hedge funds.

Whether you're a first-year looking to build your foundation, or an upper-year preparing for a career in asset management, the Analyst Program offers high-level exposure, structured mentorship, and unmatched growth opportunities.

Junior Analyst Track

Our Junior Analyst Track is built for first-year students eager to break into finance. Analysts are placed into pods and work alongside senior members to learn research methods, portfolio logic, and hedge fund strategy.
You’ll build fundamental knowledge, participate in idea generation, and contribute to real simulations—without needing prior experience. This is your entry point to high finance, built for learning, discipline, and development.

The Senior Analyst Track is designed for students with strong technical skills, past finance experience, or exceptional performance in the Junior track. Senior Analysts take ownership of strategy within their team, leading research, managing simulated P&Ls, and mentoring junior members.
You’ll compete in monthly reviews, pitch to the Executive team, and refine the thinking required to succeed in hedge funds, trading, and research.

Portfolio Simulation & Strategy Execution

Analysts are assigned to one of three core pods—Long/Short Equities, Event-Driven, or Arbitrage—where they collaboratively build and manage simulated portfolios. Each analyst contributes trade ideas, helps size positions, and tracks performance metrics, just like a real fund team would.

Research-Driven Investment Process

Analysts develop investment theses using company research, macroeconomic analysis, and catalyst-driven insights. Whether it's valuing a stock, modeling an M&A outcome, or identifying arbitrage opportunities, all ideas must be backed by data and a clear strategy.

Monthly Internal Competitions

Each month, pods present their portfolio decisions to the executive team in a friendly yet high-expectation pitch competition. Teams are evaluated on strategy clarity, thesis strength, and risk analysis—mirroring the high-pressure check-ins seen in real hedge funds.

Mentorship & Collaboration

Junior and Senior Analysts work side-by-side in the same pods, encouraging cross-level learning. Senior Analysts take on informal mentorship roles, guiding juniors through research processes, pitch building, and fund logic—fostering a collaborative and upward-learning environment.

Career Development & Recruiting Prep

Throughout the semester, analysts gain access to resume reviews, mock interviews, and recruiting insights from execs and alumni. The technical and strategic exposure from the program directly supports students aiming for roles in trading, equity research, asset management, and hedge funds.
