About Us

The Martlet Fund is McGill University’s first and only hedge fund focused student organization.

We provide students with hands-on investing experience through two complementary programs. The Analyst Program allows students to join one of three strategy teams: Event-Driven, Quantitative Trading, or Long-Short Equities. Within these teams, Analysts research, pitch, and simulate portfolio decisions in a collaborative environment. The General Membership Program offers bi-weekly sessions led by strategy teams, giving students the opportunity to learn directly from Analysts, gain exposure to hedge fund practices, and follow trades alongside them.

Our mission is simple: we invest in people. Whether you are preparing for a career in finance or simply curious about investing, MFM equips students of all backgrounds with the skills, community, and opportunities to succeed.

Get Involved

The Martlet Fund is built around two programs that are equally valuable, offering students the chance to engage with investing in the way that best fits their time, goals, and interests.

Member

The General Membership Program is designed for accessibility. Every week, a strategy team presents its recent trades, insights, and performance to members. Students can follow a single strategy closely or explore multiple approaches to broaden their learning. Open to all McGill students, the program is an entry point for those curious about finance while still offering depth for those who want to expand their knowledge. Many members later transition into Analyst roles, but the program also stands on its own as a chance to build financial literacy, connect with peers, and engage with the Fund’s community without the pressure of a selective track.

Analyst

The Analyst Program is a selective track for students who want to immerse themselves in the structure of a real hedge fund. Analysts join one of three specialized strategy teams, Event-Driven, Quantitative Trading, or Long-Short Equities, where they learn to research, model, and pitch investment ideas while managing a portfolio. Teams follow a layered structure: Executives develop the curriculum and provide leadership, Senior Analysts take on intermediate responsibilities and mentor Juniors, and Juniors focus on building a strong foundation. This creates a rigorous but collaborative environment where students gain practical, career-ready skills.
